| Safety tips and Common Sense Rules |
| |
| Be wary of buyers and sellers who use free e-mail services or any other service where a credit card wasn't required to open the account – all xgStreet members are paid members, so we recommend you communicate within our community to avoid scams. |
| Classifieds are a great way to find great deals but it pays to be careful. |
| Fortunately, avoiding scams is easy with xgStreet Swap xchange Trading Community as all members have free access to all features with your membership. |
Deals involving Western Union or money order are usually scams. |
| Never pay in advance for an item that you haven't seen.
When dealing overseas, make use of our free Web Chat service for members only.
Don't divulge personal information.
Common scam: A buyer wants to overpay.
Probable scam: A buyer/seller wants to use Western Union, Moneygram or Escrow.
See it before you buy it. The easiest way to ensure that you're getting what you want is to go see it in person or if this is not possible, use our Video Chat service to build relationship with the seller, check out the product or service on offer - and join groups of trusted buyers/sellers who share the same interest. If you choose to meet a local seller, choose a meeting place where you feel comfortable -- either go with a friend or meet at a public place.
Pay Cash or use PayPal. Exchanging cash in person is the safest way to ensure a legitimate transaction or use the trusted payment service PayPal; Shop without sharing financial information. Be suspicious of sellers who request payment by wire transfers or money orders or if they ask money to be sent overseas by this method.
Shipping. PayPal has teamed up with the U.S. Postal Service, Canada Post, Royal Mail Group and UPS to provide integrated shipping tools. When you're ready to ship your items, you can select the carrier that's right for you.
Ask questions. xgStreet can find you great products and services - but the rest is up to you. Before completing a transaction, ask the seller lots of questions, request more photos and talk to the seller face-to-face with Video Chat to make sure you know all the necessary details about an item (and see it) before you buy it.
Look for warning signs of fraud. If a seller is unclear about their location or the origin of an object, be suspicious. Requests for your bank account, social security number, or other personal information is almost always inappropriate, and is a warning sign of fraud. Using PayPal payment service, this information is kept safe and secure between you and PayPal. |
